The Europe Alliance and EPI company have worked together to explore solutions to improve the sovereignty of Europe in payments, aimed at cross-border transactions.
The initiative is intended to enable European citizens to send and receive seamless payments on the continent, so that both consumers and traders are supported.
Europe Alliance includes Bancomat, Bizum, MB Way (SIBS) and VIPPS MobilePay.
“The cooperation between Europe and EPI is powered by a shared interest in exploring a joint solution that uses the strong acceptance and existing possibilities of each participant through improved interconnectivity,” Epi said in a press release.
The partnership aims to cover all payment types, including person to person and commercial transactions, both online and in the store, on participating markets.
A study to assess the potential of the cooperation is underway and is expected to be closed by the end of the summer of the summer of 2025.
The agreement will initially span 15 European countries.
Users can use their favorite digital payment solutions locally and throughout Europe, with provisions for markets that lack such systems.
Connecting existing payment solutions is seen as a quick way to achieve European sovereignty in payments, a goal that is shared by the European Commission and the Euro system.
Europe, the European Payments Alliance, unites large mobile payment providers in their markets. It focuses on creating a strong Pan-European payment market through interoperability, using SEPA immediate payment standards.
