The Philadelphia 76ers have many decisions to make when it comes to the number 3 of the overall choice they possess in Wednesday’s design. After a miserable season of 24-58, the Sixers will add a talented young piece to a selection that needs an injection of the youth.
There are many indications that the Sixers can go. They could add a player like Rutgers-star Ace Bailey who has canceled a training with Philadelphia or Baylor Star vj Edgecombe or one of the other prospects such as Tre Johnson of Duke’s Knueppel. Another option could be to exchange to acquire more assets and create some cap -flexibility.
A trial version of ESPN has the Sixers on 3 stay and selecting Edgecombe, but there are some details that come with Philadelphia during his training:
Edgecombe appears in pole position to hear his name at No. 3 because of its unique talent, but also because the clear determination of Ace Bailey to avoid teams in this reach brings Philadelphia into a difficult position that may not select someone who clearly does not want to play for them.
Although sources say that Edgecombe seemed nervous during his private training in Philadelphia and the ball did not shot particularly well in an unnatural one-on-one setting, he made a strong impression in interviews and meetings, something that appreciates the front office.
The athletic competence of Edgecombe should be his greatest possession on the way to the design. If Philadelphia wants to play faster, the idea of running the break with Edgecombe, Tyrese Maxey and Jared McCain would have to be something very interesting for this group.
In terms of his catch-and-shoot power, a skill that is needed on a team with Joel Embiid on it, he shot 45-out-124 (36.3%) and shoots 3s per synergy sports. However, he shot 21-from 45 (46.7%) when he was not talking about those attempts. It shows that he can take down an open look if needed. That shows that he has a lot upside down for his position, despite the reported heavy show in the training.
It is still to be seen what the Sixers will do on the way to Wednesday evening, but there is no doubt that President Daryl Morey and his staff will do the right due diligence to get the job done and move forward in the east.
