Kate Martin deserves a new nickname from Golden State Valkyries on Monday originally published on Athlon Sports.
Kate Martin and the Golden State Valkyries have been one of the most surprising teams in the competition to start at the WNBA season 2025 and to achieve a record of 7-6 through their first 13 games.
On Sunday, the Valkyries defeated the Connecticut Sun 87-63, where they secured their second consecutive victory and fifth victory in their last six games.
Although countless players of Golden State found success against the sun, Martin was not one of them. The former guard of Iowa Hawkeyes has recorded one point at 0-of-8 shooting, four rebounds and two assists in 17 minutes of action.
Despite her recent battle, Martin seems to enjoy her first season in the Bay Area. On Monday she posted countless photos of herself and her teammates on Instagram.
“I just have fun with it!” Martin endorsed her post.

The nickname of Kate “Money” Martin has become known among WNBA fans since she joined the competition in 2024. However, the Valkyries decided that it was time for their guard to have a new nickname and commented on Martin’s Post.
“Golden Kate💜,” replied the Valkyries.
Other Valkyries players also left their comments about Martin’s message.
“This is really nice Kate. I give it a 10/10 🙂 saf↕️”, Guard Bree Hall wrote.
“There she is,” added Aerial Powers.
Martin was selected in the second round of the WNBA design of 2024 and spent her Rookie season with the Las Vegas Aces. After her only season with the Becky Hammon team, Martin was selected in the extension of December and joined Golden State for his inaugural season.
Martin has found success with her new team despite her recent achievements. Due to 12 games, she has an average of 5.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.7 assists in 16.1 minutes per match.
Then the Valkyries Sabrina Ionescu and the title defender New York Liberty organize in the third of a five-game home stand.
