NEW YORK (AP) – Europeans still do not buy Teslas with figures on Wednesday with the sale that decreased for a fifth month in a row in May, a blow to investors who had hoped that anger would have faded towards Elon Musk.
Tesla’s turnover fell by 28% in 30 European countries last month, even as the total market for electric vehicles expanded greatly, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association. The bad show comes after Tesla’s billionaire -CEOo had promised that a “big rebound” would come last month, which contributed to a recent purchase of frenzy among investors.
They sold on Wednesday and pushed the prizes in the early afternoon trade by more than 4%.
Musk had said that Tesla would definitely get a boost as soon as the company had finished reducing its factories to produce a new version of his biggest seller, the model Y. But that was completed months ago, and the new models are available everywhere. Investors now hope that a cheaper Tesla that is expected to come out later will help the fall in sales to turn.
In general, the sale of electric vehicles of the battery increased by 25% in Europe compared to a year earlier. The market for EVs was particularly strong in Germany, where Musk potential buyers made angry by publicly supporting the extreme right-wing, anti-immigrant alternative for the German party in elections. The total EV sales there jumped 45%.
The SAIC engine of China was the big winner for the month with his European sale of EVs and other types of cars that jumped 38%. This has enabled the company to jump Tesla, who sold more cars in the region a year ago.
Saic sold 18,716 vehicles last month at the 8,729 of Tesla.
The fall in sales for Tesla comes at a crucial time for the company because it launches a test run of its ‘robotaxis’ service in Austin, Texas. Musk says that if he goes well, he expects to introduce the service in various other cities in succession and has no less than one million of the automated cabins on the end of the year.
Reviews so far have usually been good, but the service is limited to a dozen cars and some passengers have spread videos of problems during their journeys, including one that shows a robotaxi that runs a lane for opposing traffic.
Federal road safety controllers said on Tuesday that they were investigating the videos.
