Terron Armstead blocked for both Drew Brees and Tua Tagovailoa during his 12-year NFL career at the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins.
Armstead has acknowledged that he “sees similarities” between the two in a Tuesday performance on “The Rich Eisen Show”.
“The expectation, accuracy, timing of throws, the ability to hit a wing of a fly, repeatedly. Those boys throw arrows,” Armstead said about Brees and Tagovailoa. “They don’t throw it to areas, they are very accurate. And that is an elitental talent, it’s an elite characteristic [that] Have very few people. He is one of them and Drew Brees is another. “
The recently retired attacking tackle was careful to note that he did not claim that the two were “the same player or the same person”.
“Not two people are,” Armstead explained.
Nevertheless, the 33-year-old confidence that Tagovailoa could eventually come into consideration as one of the best Quarterbacks in the competition, just like Brees did during his time with the saints.
What has Tagovailoa prevented from achieving those heights during his first six seasons?
“I would say time to task,” Armstead told requirements. “Having more experience, getting more repetitions, getting more snaps. I don’t know exactly where Drew Brees took on his sixth year. I know he had a shoulder who had to be reconstructed when he signed with New Orleans and really pushed his career even further, to be the Hall of Famer Player he was.”
Armstead also praised Tagovailoa because he was a “fierce competitor” who plays “with so much love for the game.”
Armstead also noted that the 27-year-old quarterback should better protect itself in order to stay on the field.
“He is willing to risk his body in every situation,” Armstead explained. “But he has to understand – and I think he is starting to understand – his value is deeper than any game or a game. He from the line -up changes the franchise. That does it. It changes the identity of the attack, it changes the franchise.
“So I believe he should play the game with that in mind, unlike to do what I have to do to get this down first,” Armstead added. “That first down is not nearly as valuable if he is the next series there.”
Armstead understands that Tagovailoa will continue to be confronted with control until he can stay consistently on the field and the dolphins can lead to the success of Play -Offs.
He remains convinced that Tagovailoa can challenge those stories as he continues to progress during his NFL career.
“Tua has his questions, and it’s up to him to answer this question – not me,” said Armstead. “Do I believe he can do it? I do. I believe. Do I think he will do that? I do it. “
